Frock & Roll: Fashion That Rocks
An Exhibit of Garments and Accessories That Rock Our World

Allentown, PA – The Baum School of Art is pleased to present a fashion exhibit entitled Frock & Roll: Fashion That Rocks, from February 9th through March 2nd, 2012.  Consisting of high end designer fashions and accessories, the show explores fashion that exists outside the traditional boundaries of daily attire. Curated by fashion designer and Baum School fashion instructor Pamela Ptak, the garments have been selected from a diverse range of designers, some well established in the fashion pantheons of Paris, London and New York and some newly emerging, to express varying perspectives on what defines a garment. Rather than a purely conventional interpretation of the theme, the show explores the spirit of rock & roll with it’s inherent irreverence, excitement, & attitude.

As proud partners in the Rock through the Valley initiative among arts organizations throughout the Lehigh Valley, The Baum School presents a unique take on the connection between Rock and Fashion. Rather than a literal interpretation of Rock & Roll, “Frock & Roll” emerged from the spirit of Rock & Roll with its inherent irreverence, excitement, and attitude.  The show combines recent works by emerging designers, several of whom starred on Project Runway, as well as iconic designers works from the 1980’s to the present, which are on loan from a private collection.

On display in the David E. Rodale and Rodale Family Galleries, the Frock & Roll exhibit will feature more than 50 original garments, shoes, accessories, photographs, illustrations, paintings and leather art. Listed alphabetically, the designers featured in this exhibit include Betsey Johnson, Ben Pappadeas Chmura, Comme des Garcons - Junya Watanabe, Ann Demeulemeester, Marla Duran, Brianna Fano, Jean Paul Gaultier, Gucci, Kristin Haskins Simms, Mila Hermanovski, Yoshiki Hishinuma, Annina King, Alexander McQueen, Moschino, Hannah Nour, Jason Osborne, Pamela Ptak, Jay Nicholas Sario, Camilla Skovgaard, Daniel Storto, Philip Treacy, Vivienne Westwood, Ping Wu, Glen Yank, Yves Saint Laurent, Giuseppi Zanotti and Stella Zotis, along with illustrations by Scott Hanna & Gina Going, fashion photography by Joseph Balestra and artworks by Annie Haslam, celebrated vocalist of the progressive rock band, Renaissance.

On Saturday, February 25th, some of the featured designers from New York and Philadelphia will gather at The Baum School of Art for a Frock & Roll cocktail party and evening of socializing with the press and the public. The evening will include specialty cocktails, heavy hors d’oeuvres catered by Karen Hunter, live entertainment, a runway show by Baum School of Art/LCCC fashion students, and a chance to personally meet Joseph Balestra, Ben Pappadeas Chmura, Gina Going, Scott Hanna, Kristin Haskins Simms, Annie Haslam, Annina King, Jason Osborne, Pamela Ptak, Jay Nicholas Sario, and Stella Zotis. Tickets for the “Designer Meet & Greet” cocktail party are $75 per person and support the educational mission of the school. Admission to the exhibit is open to the public and free of charge. Gallery hours are Monday-Thursday 9am-9pm and Friday and Saturday 9am-3pm.

The Baum School of Art is a community school dedicated to providing instruction, guidance and encouragement for children, adults, and those who wish to pursue college level studies to reach their highest level of technical, physical, spiritual, creative, and emotional potential through the study of the visual arts.
